About the opportunity

Arthritis Care One2One Champions provide individual telephone mentoring for people with arthritis to support their needs, set personal goals and create a self care plan.
The overall aim of the Community Champions project is to improve the physical and emotional well being of people with arthritis through supported self management.
Arthritis Care Champions give face to face self management tips, information and signpost to relevant other agencies at drop in points, awareness events and community talks- such as libraries, community centres, GP surgeries, hospitals and occasional community events.
Arthritis Care One2One Champions are trained Community Champions who provide individual telephone mentoring for people with Arthritis to support their needs, set personal goals and create a self care plan.

Arthritis Care exists to support people with arthritis. We are the UK’s largest charity working with and for all people who have arthritis

The role is open to people with experience of successfully managing arthritis. To be available for 5 hours a week for at least the next 6-24 months. Daytime, weekdays, possible occasional and some evenings. Have direct personal experience of living with arthritis condition or is a carer/relative living with someone with arthritis and helping them with their care.
A positive attitude. An ability to listen, be empathetic and communicate in a pleasant and professional manner. An inclination towards self management. Able to maintain confidentiality, Good organisational skills. Able to keep accurate records. Enjoy being part of a team and a representative for the organisation. Find helping others rewarding. Respect individuals rights to make their own choices. Is able and willing to follow organisational goals and ways of working. Willing to attend initial 3 day training and supervision followed by an extra 2 day training for One2One role. Ability to travel locally on public transport or own transport. Basic IT skill

Need to be over 18 years old, DBS check is Required,Work & personal references, Complete an application form and have an informal interview, Application process will take approximately 2-3 months. Initial 3 days training within a group setting at a local venue. This may be one day per week or fortnight. Must be able to commit to 5 hours per week for at least 6 months. Agreed expenses will be paid.
