To provide a much needed befriending service in the Cheshire West region to people who are unpaid carers for family members living at home.
Full training and support will be provided to all volunteer befrienders.
Offering a couple of hours a week for a visit to a carer in their or own home or a chat via the telephone.
Chats can be about anything for example, hobbies, interests and general day to day life, rather than their caring situation as some carers prefer to be themselves beyond caring.
May also include a local visit to a café or accompanying the carer on a local social activity.
To possess good listening skills in a non-judgmental way with an understanding of client confidentiality and maintaining boundaries.
“Befriending is such a rewarding role. It has added an extra dimension to my life and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to make a difference. I feel privileged to have shared many ups and downs with my befriendees and it is a great way of keeping perspective.” – Holly, Befriender for Carer Links at Carers Trust 4All
